From Your Call to the Repair

1

Call and describe what happened

Where the water is coming from, how many rooms are affected and whether it is still arriving. That is enough for San Antonio Water Damage Repair to decide what equipment is needed and how urgent the call is.

2

Stop the source and stay clear

We will talk you through the meter valve at the curb or the shutoff where the supply enters the building. Where the water is near electrics, or it is sewage, the instruction is to stay out of the room and wait.

3

Extraction, inspection and an upfront quote

Standing water is pumped and extracted, wet materials are traced with moisture meters and photographed, and you get the scope and the price before demolition or drying equipment goes in.

4

Dry, monitor, then rebuild

Air movers and dehumidifiers run while readings are taken, and they stay until the readings say the structure is dry. Repairs follow, and you are shown what was replaced and what was saved.

Before the Crew Arrives

Stopping the water is the first priority if you can do it safely. In most San Antonio neighborhoods the shutoff is at the meter box in the parkway near the curb and needs a meter key to turn; many houses also have a valve where the line enters the building or near the water heater. Find yours before you ever need it and check that it actually turns.

Stay off wet flooring near outlets, extension cords or appliances, and do not stand in water to reach a breaker panel. Do not puncture a sagging ceiling. If the water is sewage or came in from outside, keep people and pets out of the area, wear gloves if you have to go near it, and leave the air conditioning off so the system does not pull contaminated air through the whole building.

What you can usefully do is take photographs of every affected room before anything is moved, and lift small items, rugs and electronics off wet floors if the area is otherwise safe. See the first 24 hours after water damage for the full list.

What the Quote Should Tell You

What is wet, and how you know

Meter readings and photographs, room by room, including the places the water reached that are not visible. That record is the basis for everything else in the scope.

What is being removed and what is being dried

Which materials come out, which are dried in place, and why. Drywall, cabinet bases, carpet pad and insulation are usually where the decisions are made.

What the repairs involve afterward

Drying and rebuilding are two different phases. Ask what the second one covers, so you are not surprised when a dried-out room still needs drywall, paint and trim.
